Member Catherine Stier will be teaching an NEISD Community education calss this fall for adults on writing picture books for children. The class is called “Beyond Once Upon a Time: Writing Children’s Picture Books with Author Catherine Stier.”
Course description: Writing picture books for publication is a deceptively complex pursuit that requires dedication and an understanding of this genre and current market practices. Award-winning author Catherine Stier will offer insights on crafting stories and non-fiction works that engage young children. She will discuss myths of writing for children, current trends in traditional publishing and the experience of working with critique groups and editors to complete a final draft. Participants will be invited to write, share, and receive feedback on their own picture book manuscript in class.
The course will be held at Reagan High School and will run for 4 weeks. Fee is $85. For more information, and to sign up for the class, visit www.communityed.neisd.net.
